According to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, adult obesity rates now exceed 35% in 19 states. West Virginia has the highest adult obesity rate at 40.6% and the District of Columbia has the lowest at 24.7%. Between 2020 and 2021, the adult obesity rate increased in 17 states: Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.
