According to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, adult obesity rates now exceed 35% in 17 states. West Virginia has the highest adult obesity rate at 41.6% and the District of Columbia has the lowest at 21.5%. Between 2021 and 2022, the adult obesity rate increased in 21 states: Arizona, California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
