Updated September 2021: According to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, West Virginia has the highest adult rate of diabetes at 15.7%, and Colorado has the lowest at 7.5%. Between 2019 and 2020, the adult rate of diabetes increased in Montana and decreased in Idaho and South Dakota. Eleven of the 16 states with the highest type 2 diabetes rates are in the South.
