Andrika Harmon is a busy mom to her nine-month-old, Zion, and two step children. Receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits helps her buy healthy food to support her young family while she is working and finishing college.

However, that hasn’t stopped the judgement that can come from using SNAP benefits. Andrika tells Kristi Gay—her nurse home visitor with the Gift of Life Foundation’s Nurse-Family Partnership Program—about the criticism she received during a trip to the grocery store after Zion was born.

"I had to turn around to her and explain, look, this is what is going on in my life."
